Allergic Reaction

Just when we thought we were over everything, the cold, the ear infection, the flu...Aubrey broke out in a horrible allergic reaction after we stopped her meds.  I took her to the Doctor AGAIN (3rd time in 2 weeks) they said that it probably was an allergic reaction to the amoxicillion...just like her Daddy.  They gave her some cortisone steroid and recommended the Aveeno bath products to soothe her itching.  Friday she was not bothered by in as much, but Saturday and Saturday night was pretty rough; lots of itching on her face especially.  Here are a few pics to show just how miserable she was :(

this was Friday afternoon

it didn't seem to bother her so much that day, but she just didn't look like herself

Mommy enjoying some snuggles from Aubrey

poor girl! :( this day it wasn't so much on her legs and arms but Saturday it was worse

taking a bath to help relieve the itching

Saturday after her bath, better in the face, but arms and legs more,
and she still had some smiles

Sunday morning, finally starting to look better
after a horrible night!

Poor little girl

Thursday night was a terrible night for the whole family.  Aubrey woke up screaming at 2:15 in the morning so I fed her and tried to put her down.  She immediately screamed as soon as I laid her back in her crib.  I was up with her until 3:00 and she finally went down.  At 3:30 she started screaming again.  I knew she wasn't hungry so I tried to have Steve calm her down.  It worked until 4:15 she was up again.  I realized she did not want to lay down flat, so from 4:15 - 6:00 I rocked with her in the chair.  We both got little sleep.

She continued to scream and seem in pain that morning while I was getting ready but I wasn't sure what it was.  I took her to the babysitter and I got a call from her at 10:30 and said that Aubrey really had not calmed down and she wondered what to do.  I decided then to call the Dr. because it was seeming to be an ear infection.  Thankfully with my job I was able to get off right away and take her in at 11:30.  Sure enough, an ear infection it was.  She was put on amoxacillon (sp?) right away.

My next concern was that we were supposed to travel up to NW Iowa that weekend so Steve could show cattle at the Clay County Fair and Aubrey and I could spend some time with my family.  We decided to take the trip and drugged her up with Tylenol before we left and she was a great little traveler!  The car seat was at a good angle that her ears didn't hurt and the Tylenol made her sleepy.  She slept for most of the trip!

We all had a good weekend, and now have our happy little girl back to her normal self.  We still have to take the meds two times a day, which proves to be tricky, but she is taking it better now.  At least we now know that if she is acting the same way with not sleeping well and screaming...it just might be an ear infection.  I guess we mark it down as her first ear infection; hopefully not the beginning of a trend.

Half a Year, Already!!

We can't believe it! Aubrey is 6 months old today! What a special little girl! Here's what she has been up to lately:

silly girl

what a big girl!

poor quality pic, but she can sit up by herself now!

Fall has come so that means new fall apparel: hoody and shoes

playing nicely by herself in her jammies

all decked out for the Iowa/ISU game - Daddy loves it!

sweet smiles in the morning after a big stretch

"I'm too big for this Bumbo, Mommy!"

Some things she's been up to:

  • sitting up by herself (just figured that one out)
  • making "raspberry" noises a lot
  • sitting in a high chair at restaurants
  • high pitched squealing is fun for her
  • eating veggies in the evening, which produces a new type of dirty diaper in the mornings :)
  • she really doesn't like sitting in her bouncy seat or Bumbo unless she has to, she's almost too big for them both
  • she is getting along really well at the babysitters...has taken up to 2 1/2 hour naps there and I can hardly get her to nap at home unless I am holding her...we are working on that, though
  • last night she slept 11 hours STRAIGHT! I was one happy Mommy - not something she has done consistently at all - maybe 4 times so far

More Beans, Please

Since I have noticed that Aubrey seems to very interested in food and seems hungry a lot, we have decided to start her on some real food!  I went to the store and bought some green beans baby food, since the Dr. recommended starting with the green veggies.  Here is how it went:

day 1: first taste...

 not so sure about it

 mom, this is not milk!

really...what am i eating?!

that's enough, please!

day 2: more beans, please :)
all over her bib too, which I am not sure how since she really did eat a lot!
