15-4

Despite the cold and rainy day with a possible snow day fast approaching we had our basketball game tonight at Home vs. Grinnell. Aubrey and I were joined by Grandpa Craig, Grandma Char, and Aunt Andrea  tonight! We'll keep it short and sweet....we won 49-33. Yay, team! Only three more games left in the regular season, I can't believe it! Go Oskaloosa!

An Icy Sunday

Here's what we were up to during our iced-in Sunday yesterday! Sorry for the mismatches clothes of Aubrey and the lounging attire and looks of the rest of us :)

Lounging with Daddy watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

Why not put as many "bows" as we can in Aubrey's hair?!

Ha ha, we had fun!

Helping Mommy bake cookies!

This was another day...
note the cute braided pig-tails AND
her first band-aid of her life - Dora!
She really did deserve that bandaid...she squished her finger in a drawer!

14-4

ANOTHER disappointing Friday night game, from the same town...Pella! This time we played Pella Christian at home! Steve had quite the cheering section which included Dad and Mom Kaisand, Grandpa and Grandma Kaisand, Grandpa and Grandma Betty, and Aubrey and me.

Despite coming off to a slow start, things became back and forth very quickly. It was just a one point game at halftime. Unfortunately we gave up a few too many points in the 3rd quarter and we were unable to recover; running out of time in the end! The girls fought hard, we had a few bad calls against us, and we ended up losing by six, 49-43! What a bummer! It looks like we will NOT be Conference Champs this year!

UGH! So frustrating especially with some information we gained this week about the PC team practicing with alumni to help prepare for us!  This is AGAINST the rules! Unless that/those girl(s) have a certified coaching license that is ILLEGAL! UGH! Well, not a lot we can do about it now except make sure that it does not happen in the future and they don't get away with it!

Goodnight, folks! Thanks for reading!

14-3

Yes, it is a Tuesday night, which means another game for the Lady Indians. They traveled to Knoxville and pulled out a nice win tonight with a score of 55-33.
Uncle Dan, Aunt Andrea, Gramma, and Papa were all there along with Aubrey and me. It was a nice game to get in some of the subs and run a few plays to switch up point guards and such! Way to go ladies to a  14-3 win tonight! It was a pretty fast game so I was even able to get home in time for my Tuesday night 9:00 show "Parenthood" for the season finale :)

PS - The Regional pairings came out last night! Since we were one of the top two teams in our region, we get a bye for the first round - yay! Then we will probably have to play Mt. Pleasant in the second/our first round. (We have played them twice already in the season and went 1-1 with them!) IF we win that game, we will then have to play #1 ranked Benton to make it to state! YIKES!
A VERY TOUGH road ahead but it is possible! GO INDIANS!

"NOOOO, MIIIIIINE!" -video

Aubrey loves to sing along to the book/song "Down by the Bay" and she knows many of the lines!
It usually goes something like this...she sings to CAPS words!

"Down by the BAAAAAAAAA
Where the watermelons GOOOOOOOOO
Back to me HOOOOOOO
I dare not GOOOOOOOOOO
for if I DOOOOOOO
My MOOOMMMY will say..."

I thought I would try to capture it on video while we were lounging on my bed after school but she was in no mood! She saw the video camera and all she wanted to say was "NOOOO, MIIIINE!" Can you tell she is almost a 2 year old?!

Enjoy :) Sorry for the poor quality and my annoying singing, I was laying on the bed recording up :)

"Excuse you, Mommy!"

Just a quick funny to share from tonight at supper:
We were all sitting at the table having supper together and I let out a nice little burp :)
As soon as I did, Aubrey pipes up..."excuse you, Mommy!"
Steve and I just looked at each other and laughed...did she really just say that?!
"Okay, sorry, Aubrey...excuse me" I said and she seemed satisfied!
TOO FUNNY!
I don't know where she gets up with this stuff...but it is too darling and just had to share :)

13-3

The Lady Indians had to turn right around after an intense Friday night double OT game and play again at Home on Saturday afternoon. This time they hosted Mount Pleasant.

This team beat us earlier in the season so we were looking for revenge on our home floor. This is also the team that Steve has gotten two technicals with at their place so there is always a little tension in the air :)

The girls got out to a 19-2 start after the first quarter and came ready to play despite their heartbreaking loss. We maintained a lead and felt pretty good until about the 4th quarter. Our point guard went out with an injury and Mt. Pleasant got hot hitting the threes. Suddenly it was only a 9 point game after being up over 20!  The Mt. P assistant coach then got a technical foul which lost their teams momentum and we were able to hang on for the win 55-43!

That felt GOOD!

12-3

WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aubrey and I were able to make it to the game and Aubrey did FANTASTIC considering the game went way later than normal and we didn't get home until about 8:45. The game was so intense that I didn't even want to leave to change her diaper, so she peed out of it at the end...poor girl :( (sorry, tmi)

The Lady Indians hosted the Pella Dutch which is always a tough team to play but we had beat them earlier in the season so were planning to do the same! We had moved up to being ranked #13 before the game tonight. The girls have been playing their best basketball lately and we were hoping for that to continue tonight!

THE GAME WAS A NAIL BITER to the very end and the place was PACKED! It was so incredibly noisy for over half of the game; it was intense! I was off my seat cheering on the team after almost every point! We were surrounded by some obnoxious Pella fans which always makes me want to cheer louder for our team :) At one point, I turned around to them and told them to calm down with the yelling, especially with Aubrey around. They were pretty respectful after that ;)

The girls were down most of the game and got it close several times but we LOST in DOUBLE OVERTIME! We had two girls foul out and our best player reached 1,000 career points, but that wasn't enough. It was bittersweet for her. Obviously, what an amazing accomplishment but such a bummer to have to accept that honor after an upset!

The girls lost with a score of 51-56 ! SO SAD!

A Non-Basketball Post :)

Well, as you can tell with the recent blog updates, basketball has been consuming our lives lately (and for Jen full time teaching:)) BUT, here are a few non-basketball pics :)

Nice work, Aubrey!

Lounging on the floor before church.

"Grandma Grouw" came to visit last weekend
so Aubrey got some extra cuddles!
She keeps asking..."Mama...Curt?!"

Praying before a meal :)

"When I say GO, you say FIGHT!"
What a little cheerleader we have on our hands :)

Eating supper tonight...
mashed potatoes with a finger....nice!

SO yummy she had to close her eyes to enjoy!

AND a dance party erupts in the middle of supper!

"If you're happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it!"

PARTY in the kitchen!

12-2

Whoa, BABY! These girls are on a roll! Tonight the Lady Indians played Norwalk at home. Aubrey and I did not make it to this game tonight but we were able to stay in and watch in on TV! Aubrey was running a low temp and had a very snotty nose so I decided not to push it and we just took it easy for the night!

This is typically a tough team and one of the teams we will have to beat out for the conference title! One of the Norwalk's best players was injured, but we still had to come out to play.  We pulled out ANOTHER win tonight with a 48-32 victory! That puts us at a record of 5-1 for the Little Hawkeye Conference! Yippee! I am sure that our #15 ranking from last week will be bumped up a bit after these last few wins! I'll be sure to keep you updated, as always! This sure is getting exciting! Hang on for the ride, folks!

11-2

I am very sorry to my faithful blog readers, but I have not updated as best as I should have this weekend due to some family visiting and a bit of not feeling well over here too!

So, on Friday, the Oskaloosa Girls Basketball team played Newton at home! Thursday night the rankings came out again and the girls were back at their #15 ranking for class 4A! Earlier in the season we were #15, but then fell out of the rankings, but they were back on it again. Along with that ranking comes the added pressure, but the girls won their game easily 57-38! It was a great win as it was their third game of the week. That put them at a record of 10-2.

Saturday night the girls had their FOURTH game that week! The ranked #9 Washington Demons came to town on Saturday evening. It is always hard to play a Saturday game especially after having a full week of games already but the girls were ready to fight! It was a physical game but we held them to just four free throws in the second quarter and no field goals to open up a ten point lead at halftime. (Thanks Steve for your contribution to those stats). They were able to maintain that lead for the rest of the game even though it seemed much closer at times due to the intensity on the floor and in the stands :) They pulled out a 51-38 win! That will prove they deserve to be ranked!
We are now 11-2.

Here are the rankings as of January 9. 2012 (before our last two games)

9-2

I know, can you believe it...another post about a basketball game! They just keep on playing and keep on winning, just the way we like it! Today was another away game, but Aubrey and I DID manage to make it there along with Craig, Char, and Andrea, too! The girls played at Albia, a nice game despite some iffy refs the first half, and got the W 58-38! Aubrey had fun squealing for her Daddy and also watching the band and the cheerleaders intently! I would say almost more intently than the basketball game! Shhh, don't tell Daddy! :) We have two more games this weekend, Friday and Saturday, both are Home!

8-2

Way to go, ladies, on our way to a 8-2 victory! The ladies traveled all the way to Williamsburg for their game tonight! Once again, Aubrey and I stayed home and listened on the radio. The score was 55-45! It was tied all the way though the first half and the girls pulled away in the second half! Yay!

There have been a lot of away games lately, so we are looking forward to maybe getting in on a few games later in the week!

What We've Been Up To...

I know it has been a bit since I have updated with some new pictures, so here is what we have been up to lately!

We saw a couple deer right out in our backyard
the other morning while we were getting ready for school!

Aubrey LOVES to copy what her Daddy does!

Kailey (and Ryan) came up to Iowa for a few days
and Aubrey and Kailey got to see each other again!
Aubrey was sick part of the time they were here,
but the girls were able to hang out and play together one evening.

Trying to pose nicely, but Aubrey was much more interested
in laying down and using the ball as her pillow!

Awwww, HUGS, cousins!

Checking out Grandma and Grandpa's flipping puppy!

Thanks Aunt Sara for the nail polish!
Aubrey and Mommy both have it on our toes now!

The FIRST TIME Aubrey got to play out in the "snow!"
Last year she never did she she couldn't walk, so we had to document this adventure.

Too bad that most of the snow had melted and it was just kinda cold and windy,
but we took down the Christmas lights and Aubrey came out to watch for a bit.
She liked waddling around in her winter clothes!

7-2

After a long Christmas vacation, the girls were back in action tonight at Grinnell. Aubrey and I did not make the trip over since she is still getting back to her normal self after being sick. Aubrey and I did not really even listen to the whole game as we went to some of my students' dance recital in the Oskaloosa Mall instead. From what I heard, we won the game 50-42. I can't give a lot of details about the game but we got the W. Yay!
