1-14

On Tuesday night there was FINALLY a home game
so Aubrey and I (and Grandpa and Grandma)
went to the game vs. Knoxville.

The girls were finally playing with some gusto and
enthusiasm and it showed!
The girls had a lot more fun
(after a players-only meeting on Monday!)
They kept the game close
and even came within three points, but
ended up losing by 12, 41-53.

Friday night is away at PC for their Homecoming.
Tip off at 6:00!

Aubrey singing - video

Normally we can understand what Aubrey is singing about
but this time, we have no idea!
She was doing a good job before, and then this.
Sorry, for my "cold-sounding" comments :)

1-13

This weekend was another weekend with two games
Friday and Saturday, both away. Bringing our record to 1-13.

Friday night, we celebrated Grandpa Craig and Andrea's
birthdays and had supper at Capri's in Pella
(a newer Italian place) before the game.
I don't have the score with me but it was another loss
for the girls.
This time the girls put together a better game
as a whole, but still couldn't overcome
the fact that Pella is still about a
20-point better team than us.
It was a better game than we played them last time
since we didn't have our point guard before.

Saturday afternoon, the girls traveled all the way
to Mount Pleasant for a 1:30 game.
Since we both were battling colds, we took naps
instead and didn't even listen to the game - sorry!
So, I don't have a the exact score
but according to Steve, that is okay.
I do know our whole team scored a
total of 14 points - yikes and lost by 34 in the end.
(kinda glad I got my nap in, then!)

1-11

Yes, the basketball record count jumped from 1-9, to 1-11
because Steve had two games this weekend, back to back.
They traveled away to Norwalk on Friday
and then away to Washington on Saturday.
Aubrey and I did not attend either game.

Both games could be summed up very similarly.
The girls came out to play in the first halves
and then the second halves got away from them quickly.

Norwalk's final score was 55-23
6 points in the second half :(

Washington's final score was 61-28.
8 points in the second half :(

The team gets a rare Tuesday off from a game
and our next opponent will be away at Pella on Friday night.
Stay tuned...

1-9

On Tuesday night, a cold and windy Tuesday night,
the girls traveled to Newton for their game.
Once again, too far and too cold, so Aubrey and I stayed home.
We did manage to listen on the radio
in between painting toe nails, playing dress-up
and organizing bows :)

This was probably our second best game of the year
(outside of our one win!).
"This was a fun game to coach again," says the coach
instead of sitting back and watching things get out of hand.
Although the team lost, the final score was 44-37
only losing by 7 instead of the recent 35 point losses.

Unfortunately, some factors that contributed to our loss included:
1- our point guard in foul trouble the entire game and
eventually fouling out with 3 minutes left of the game
2- we couldn't make our free throws
BUT, even as Steve was interviewing on the radio he said,
"Oh my goodnes, Oh my goodness!" It's fun to coach in a close game again! :)
I'm glad there is a little fun back in the season
for everyone's sake!

Last Christmas

Last night/afternoon (Sunday) we had our last Christmas
at Grandpa and Grandma Kaisands house.
We played some games (Uno Attack) and opened
the rest of our presents :)

Since we have afternoon church,
Steve went to the service, since he's now a deacon
and Aubrey and I stayed home to take a nap
BUT, Aubrey would not fall asleep, so of course
as soon as we get in the car to Pella....this happens :)

It's so hard to be patient to wait your turn...

The ONE THING LEFT that Aubrey really wished she had gotten
this Christmas was a Cinderalla princess dress-up outfit
and yesterday was her lucky day!

 After opening her dress,
she made the comment...where is my crown and shoes?
We said...I guess we will just have to wait.
Then she got this! She was set to be Cinderella!
(Crown, shoes, necklace, earrings, and purse)

All decked out as Cinderella!
Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Kaisand

Opening her present from
Aunt Sara, Uncle Ryan and Kailey - thanks!

Catrina and Aubrey were dress-up buddies for the day :)

1-8

Friday night the Oskaloosa ladies travled all the way to
Dallas Center - Grimes (DCG) -  an hour and a half drive.
Needless to say, since it was that far away and
kinda rainy/foggy, we did not go.
But Aubrey did allow me to listen on the radio.

Our record is now 1-8, and we lost 56-22.
Once again, we knew going into the game, that they were tough,
in fact, they lead the conference.
To be realistic, Steve's goal was to stay within 50
points, and we kept it to 34, so not bad ;)
BUT there is a running clock at a 35 point spread.

Nothing new really to share...we had some sickness
which slowed some of our girls down and still didn't have
a "full" team there, due to illness/injuries, too.
Next weeks games hope to be a better chance for us.

1-7

Last night Steve had a home game vs. Grinnell.
It was one of two home games all month, so Aubrey and I
ventured out, even though it was still pretty cold.

We knew going into this game, that it would be tough, as usual.
Grinnell shot the ball amazingly well and hardly missed a shot.
We fell to a record of 1-7 on the year now.
The final score was 74-36, and although that sounds really
discouraging, it was actually a pretty-well played game by the girls.

We did meet a couple new goals:
1-Alexis hit TWO THREES
(the first all year)
2- We had our highest score of 36 points
It's all about the small victories.
And now a long month of away games for Steve
and a long month home alone for the girls.

Haircut

Today Aubrey went in for her first haircut!
We went to Expressions in Oskaloosa
and had Kelly (Tegan's mom) cut her hair.
She said she was SO EXCITED and a little bit scared.
She did great and hardly made a peep!

on our way out the door

then she got a side braid and SPARKLES

Aubrey got this little certificate with a piece
of her hair and a candy for being so good!

1-6

Oops, apparently I missed to update a game before Christmas.
I think they played Eddyville (they lost).

They are now 1-6.

Friday night, Aubrey and I bundled up and trekked over to Albia.
Last year when we drove over, I remember I got lost
and had to call Craig for directions so this time I was sure to
get better directions from Steve.
He gave GREAT directions, except he told me to turn at the Casey's
and the school would be shortly after that.

WELL...the Casey's he was referring to had been torn down
and I went 3 blocks further to the newer Casey's - OOPS!
Needless to say, I need another call for directions this year. Oh dear.

On the way there, I was telling Aubrey that we are going to Albia
to watch Daddy coach.
She was so confused. I guess she doesn't remember what
away games are like.
She kept saying, "Why did Daddy switch basketball to Albia?"
"But we live in Oskaloosa! Why is Daddy coaching in Albia?!"
It was pretty cute to hear her try to understand.

Unfortunately, the game didn't turn out as planned
as it quickly became a blowout with a final score of 63-33.
On a positive side, it was the highest points that
the Oskaloosa girls have gotten this year.

No comment from the Coach this time.
He says, "If you want a comment, read the paper."
Ouch ;)

Poor Steve, he is quite frustrated with the season.
He said to me, "Did I have fun last year? Cuz this year sucks!"
And, yes, I reminded him that last season was awesome,
just too bad for a bummer of a season this year.
