Summer Stuff

Last Sunday evening, our town square had a celebration and
hosted it's first movie in the park - RIO!
Since it is one of girls' favorite movies, we stayed up late and watched it!
It didn't start until 8:30 but the weather was perfect!
We also enjoyed free popcorn and sno biz :)

We brought our lawn chairs and blankies and were good to go!

Mommy took the girls to a Mango Tree date
to mostly encourage Aubrey to keep up with her cold eating/drinking

Grandma VG sent special gifts for Aubrey
(and Avery) to help in her recovery

lots of lego building downstairs with Daddy

YAY - we finished it!
She has played with it equally as long as it took her to build it!

On Thursday night, Mom took the girls to "Sweetcorn Serenade" on the square -
Daddy was working with cows f]or the State Fair.

Aubrey was brave and wanted to ride the pony all by herself!
Avery said not a chance!

I fould this cute little desk and chair for Aubrey on a BST site for only $20!
She needed something more grown up in her room for her "homework" in Kindergarten!

While Aubrey was still recovering, Daddy took Avery to the County Fair.
She did the working exhibits from the 4Hers

and enjoyed walking around with her hands in her pockets ;)

She tripped on our cement step and fell HARD!
She insisted she needed a band aid on her scraped chin
so she went and got one and put it on all by herself.

This past Saturday night we invited ourselves over to Dan and Andrea's
house in Indianola to watch the hot air balloons go near their house!
The girls liked seeing all the balloons...I think we counted 45 that took off!

It was Aubrey's first time really allowed to "play" since her tonsils were out,
so rolling down the hills and running around with cousins was great fun!

First Haircut

Today Avery got her first haircut with Kelly at Expressions.

before-front

before - back

she wasn't sure at first about sitting in the chair

But after putting on the penguin "dress"
and holding on to "Dora" - all was well :)

her natural curl

Then Kelly curled, braided, and put sparkles in it!

So cute!

Tonsils

Aubrey got her tonsils and adenoids removed today at the Lakeview Surgery Center in Des Moines. She was a champ and did great!

On the way, completely oblivious of what is to come :(

In the wating room, playing on the ipad before

She was chatty and giggly beforehand, and looked oh so cute!

She did great and was quickly on her way to recovery.
The actual surgery was about 15 minutes.
Aubrey later told us that she didn't like to put on the cherry gas mask
and that she cried for us :(

She would take a short nap and wake up and cry and eat a bit of posicle
and repeat for about an hour.
Her Dora blanket and her giraffe "Ozzie" kept her comfy on Daddy's lap.
She ate almost 2 bomb pops before we left.

She was able to sit up on the way home, watch a movie,
and enjoy a strawberry shake.

Avery just wants to be close and cuddle - too sweet.

Going West - Mt. Rushmore & Bear Country

DAY 9
Mount Rushmore and Bear Country USA
and travel to NW Iowa.

We left the hotel at 8 am and the Wynias were right behind us
about an hour!

pretending to blow up the rock with dynamite

watching the film in the theatre about the carving

the girls referred to them as "the FACES"

We hiked a bit of the Presidential trail but it was not
stroller accessible, so we didn't travel it long.

Then we met up with the Wynias and checked out the teepees.

They found IOWA!

We spent about an hour and a half at Mt. Rushmore then caravaned
to Bear Country USA - a drive through wildlife park.

We had to stay in the van, so the girls took off their seatbelts
and moved around a bit.

We made GREAT TIME getting to Northwest Iowa that night.
We spent the night at Mom and Dads and were finally homeward bound
on Sunday morning!
DAY 10 - we made it home around 3:30 and even had time to make it to night church!

What a wonderful trip with lots of memories!!
