I know Steve probably wouldn't approve of this post
but I am going to share anyway.
Therefore details may be a bit off :)
Since basketball has been finished,
Steve has spent part of his Saturdays
at his parents working with the cattle and getting them ready.
We know that there was snow in the forecast,
so he decided to head there in the morning.
I get a phone call about an hour and a half
after he left and said, "I got in an accident."
Oh dear. Right away you think the worst,
but he assured me that he was fine.
The night before we also got some snow and
the roads were still a little slick.
He was traveling on Old Hwy 92,
really only about a mile from the gravel turn-off.
From what he said, he met a big duely pick-up
on the very narrow highway and Steve got stuck
in a rut on the shoulder.
He got back on
the blacktop but started fish-tailing
as it was still pretty slick out.
As he was trying to maintain control,
another car was coming and he just couldn't
keep it on the road and miss the oncoming car.
He spun around and went into the ditch backwards.
As he was sliding, his rear end slammed
into an electrical pole.
A car immediately stopped and asked if he was okay
and brought him to Grandpa Vander Schel's.
They went back to air up the tires a bit before they
could pull him out and bring the car to Grandpa's house.
They called the sherriff to take pictures for insurance
and it looks like the car (his Grand Prix) will be totaled.
Steve is borrowing Grandpa's pick-up for the meantime
and it looks like we will probably be looking
for a "new" car for Steve.
We are just glad it wasn't with the Equinox
with both the car seats in it :)
Steve said it was kinda "ironic" because on his drive in
he was thinking, "Man, I should take it easy on these roads,
the last thing I need is something to happen to me
before the baby comes."
SO thankful he wasn't hurt!
We can deal with a broken car,
just not a broken Steve :)
