On Tuesday after lunch, we began our first family vacation to Kansas City.
We were planning to head for a few days,
but our trip began sooner than expected when we found out that
my cousin Matt Andriese would be the starting pitcher
(after a series of "fortunate" events for us)
for the Tampa Bay Rays vs. the Royals on Tuesday night!
We booked a last-minute hotel right across the
stadium and got checked in before the game since we
knew that it would be a late night at the game.
We literally walked right over!
Aubrey enjoyed the fountains at Kauffman Stadium
quick family selfie before the rain
and all the craziness of the whole family
Aubrey got to play on the playground before everyone came
Dad and Mom VG and the Wynias joined us
in the seats in the outfield right next to the visiting team's bullpen
Camryn and Aubrey reunited and it feels so good!
We got to watch him warm up right in front of our seats!
#35 Matt Andriese
the girls peeking through the rails watching him get ready :)
And then it started to rain for most of the night!
(the weather called for calm and cool...not so much!)
One of the Tampa Rays guys gave Aubrey a ball!
And we were one of the first 10,000 fans who got free Royals T-shirts
so we used them as rain gear instead!
When the Rays were at bat, we would stand under the
awning to try to stay a little drier.
This is a picture of one of the TVs :)
And then we'd quick run out in the rain and watch him pitch again
Standing under the concourse this time - getting pretty wet!
THEN Mom got chatty with some folks as they were leaving
and they offered us their ROW 8 seats right behind home plate!
AWESOME!
Mom, Gavin, Camryn, Aubrey and I sat there first!
Then Dad, Steve and Avery joined us later
This is the view from the seats that the Wynias got (2)
from a friend who had season tickets.
Steve's view for awhile :)
He was with Avery since it was under the awning
and they didn't get that wet
the girls dancing to the music between innings
staying awake late under the lights!
We made it until the bottom of the 6th and
Matt pitched 4 2/3 in a no decision!
He only gave up one run but then the Royals
scored 4 in the next ending, with the Rays losing.
That ball that Aubrey got, Mom had Matt
sign it after the game!
Mom Dad Josh and Curt stayed through the game
and ended up bringing Matt back to the hotel.
We couldn't make it to 12 so we didn't get to talk to him
but thanks, Matt for the autographed ball!
Back to the hotel for our first night!
Avery did not sleep well, but we were up and at it
earlier than wanted so in the bath the girls went to start Day 2.
