Frosty Udder

We love our little ice cream barn called The Frosty Udder.
We enjoyed our first taste of the season last week on a nice warm evening.

Evening at the farm

Daddy took Aubrey out to the farm tonight. She had a baby calf born out of "Honey Bea" so Aubrey got to meet her tonight. She also had fun riding the four wheeler, being brave with cats, and saying "giddy up" to the cows. She still isn't a fan of grandpa and grandmas dog "Dodger" though.

Grandpa Craig introducing Aubrey to her new calfie

I think she named her "Honey Pot"...we'll see if it sticks

Taking selfies on Daddy's phone on the way home. There was probably twenty that she took... This was the best one.

Girls

It was a post-bathtime, jammie-wearin, chair-sittin, movie-watchin
kind of night before Daddy got home.

Tulips with Aubrey

Mommy and Aubrey went to a few garage sales and consignment shops in Pella this morning.
So we also had to grad some Jaarsmas and tiptoe through the tulips :)
She even asked to take pictures so I gladly obliged.

Day to day

With my smartphone I tend to capture more day to day life pictures.
Here are a few.
We aren't posed and glamorous....just candid.

Chicken

I just have to blog about this to keep a record for me :)

We eat a variety of meats in our house, including beef and chicken.
But now that Aubrey is getting a little bit older, she is asking more questions
and wanting more answers about everything, including chicken!

Just the other day we were talking about where chicken comes from
and I told her that your chicken nuggets and food you eat comes from animals.
She brushed it off as, whatever, ok mom.

Then, on SUNDAY...
I had a WHOLE rotisserie chicken that I had made from cooking group
and we had not eaten it yet since I am not a huge whole chicken fan.
I didn't really know how to cook it and from what I read,
it would take about 5 hours in the oven.
So, Sunday was the day to cook this bad boy.
I get it all set up and put in the pan and told Aubrey to come look!

I said, "QUICK! Aubrey, LOOK! There is a real chicken in our oven!
Someone cut off his head and neck and now we are going to eat it for supper!"

I am making a big deal out of this of course and she is VERY unsure of what I was saying.
She takes a closer look and has all sorts of questions:
"Is it a hen? Where is it's neck? Does it have babies?..."
I answer correctly except I may have told her that I cut off the head and threw it in her bed.
(I know, not nice! - Steve was saying that I shouldn't have said that, too!)
She quick runs into her room to check and I had to clarify for her
the real story behind a chicken.
After a little lesson she says, "Okay, but I am NEVER eating a REAL chicken!"
And that's when I said "You already have...too late!"

Finally after the 5 hours of cooking, it was done.
Steve "googled" it to see how to really cut it and eat it, but
it was really tender and easy to find the meat.
Reluctantly, Aubrey decided she would try it...with Ranch.
It was a success,
Now she knows she DOES eat REAL chicken...and she likes it!

Then she was asking about white, chocolate and strawberry milk and you can about imagine where her mind went with that.
Steve says, "We are moving back to the farm, NOW!" Lol

Easter

It was a gorgeous day outside to celebrate Easter!

First Mommy and Aubrey went to the 8:00 church service at the cemetery
with donuts and juice to follow at church.
Then Daddy and Aubrey went to the normal church service.
Avery Leigh had to stay home since she is trying to kick this ear infection.
So no cute pics of the girls in their Easter outfits...that will have to wait :)

Here is my "Easter Egg" veggie tray...thanks Pinterest

We all headed to Grandma and Grandpa Kaisands for lunch
and outside fun.

Easter Egg Hunts

On Wednesday, we had our first Easter Egg Hunt.
It was at William Penn and it was a super warm day!
There weren't a lot of kids and Aubrey got about 25 eggs
filled with some good name-brand candy:)

Avery got to watch from the stroller

Checking out all her loot :)

Then on Saturday, it was a much cooler day and we all went out for it.
This one is held in the big open grass lot sponsored by Bank Iowa.

All bundled up and getting excited!

I just LOVE this action shot of Aubrey!
(teal coat, hat, and pink bucket)

any more left?

It lasts all of 2 minutes and then you go back and check what you got!
You get coins, candy and a possible paper to pick up a prize!

We brought them back to the van to check and we got a paper!
A BAG OF CANDY!
We head over to the bank to cash it in!

YAY! This was the first time we got a paper!
There are really big prizes, such as a wagons and ride-on tractors
and kites and Barbies...maybe next year we'll get a BIG prize!
