Summer Things

Pool parties with friends

Avery's first time off the diving board without a floatie or someone close by to catch her.

Sweet Corn Serenade on the Osky Square
It was SWELTERING - felt like 108 degrees most of the day/evening.

Aubrey had a pool party with friends, too

The girls have spent a LOT of the summer putting on a talent show for us - based like America's Got Talent, but they call it KGT - Kids Got Talent. We've seen singing, dancing, stand up comedy, quick change, danger acts, gymnastics, and more!

Avery picked up pretty quickly how to do flips off the trampolines

Aubrey on the zip line - something new they added since the last time we were there 2 years ago.

Ninja Warrior-like course

Since we didn't make it to a MLB game this summer, we opted for a local I-Cubs game instead.

The girls' first experience with Dippin' Dots and they were in LOVE with the Cookies N Cream.

The t-shirt gun flung a t-shirt right our way and I out-hung-onto the shirt with the lady next to me and I got it to keep it!

Southern Iowa Fair - part 2

On Thursday, July 22, it was SHOWDAY at the fair!
Steve was clipping before the show.

I can't groom the calves, but I can groom the showgirl :)

In her first class she showed RUBY.

Unfortunately, during the show, Ruby did a little buck and knocked Aubrey straight to the ground and she got loose. Aubrey was shook and fell in poop, but she recovered well and finished the class in 3rd.

In her second class, she showed DAISY DUKE and got 3rd in her class, too!

Aubrey had a GREAT fan club, Mom, Dad, Aunt Cindy, G and G Kaisand, G Craig and G Char and
G and G Betty, and Avery!

After her two classes, Dad told her she would do showmanship and she really didn't want to, but she close to do it with DAISY DUKE. She was in the Junior class and there were 12 contestants, 4th-6th graders.

Because there were so many kids, the showmanship class took at least 15 minutes, which is a long time to be in the showring! Aubrey did AMAZING! There were heifers getting loose all around her and even a few who were head-butting right by her. She did a good job walking Daisy Duke around when she needed and tried to set her up correctly.

We couldn't believe it - she got RESERVE JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP! We were so proud with how she recovered after getting knocked down earlier in the day and did so well with her cow.

Cookie stacking contest - Avery

Cookie stacking contest - Aubrey,
NOT PICTURED is Steve who also did it and got 2nd in his age category :)

Lego contest - Avery

Avery got 3rd place in her age group for the lego contest by making an ambulance

Aubrey - lego contest

She made "1st place" ribbons, but that didn't win her a prize

I did the bubble-blowing contest and got 3rd in my age group :)

It was a HOT WEEK, so we let Aubrey bring Kate over to hang out in the pool for a few hours to cool off.

One last time rinsing the calves before tie - outs

Avery was brave enough for 30 seconds to take a pic and that was about it :)

At the end of the fair ribbon auction.

And that's a wrap - we are whooped!
