Two Botttom Teeth

I have been trying to get pictures of Aubrey's two bottom front teeth, but she is not quick to show them.  So here is me forcing her mouth open so we can try to take a peek :)

...kinda...

...sorta...

...maybe the best we'll get for now...

...and just because she's cute :)

Date Night

Steve and I really have not been on a "real date" since Aubrey was born until last night! Steve's Mom (and Dad) were willing to watch Aubrey for the night.  We went to Des Moines to our favorite restaurant, Red Robin, and then we went to the Matt Maher, Laura Story, and Andy Cherry concert at the Point of Grace Church in Waukee.

We got home at almost 11:00 and not to bed until 11:30! I can't remember the last time I stayed up that late! :) I've been up to feed Aubrey at that time, but not starting off bed at that time.  Unfortunately Aubrey woke up for the first time at 12:30 so that was a short-lived "one hour nap" to start off the night. Haha.

We had a really nice time away and from what we hear, Aubrey did well for Grandpa and Grandma, too.  That was the first night I had not put her to bed so I was hoping things would go ok...I guess she really is getting to be a big girl...doesn't need her Mommy all the time :)

Sickness

I am writing this in between loads on laundry and waiting for all my disinfecting sprays and cleaners to clear the air while Aubrey naps.  We have had a terrible week with sickness all in the family. Three people in the family and each of us on antibiotics!

It started last week Saturday with Aubrey having a horrible night and we...(Aubrey and I) have not had a good night's sleep since.  Steve took her to to Dr. on Tuesday and eventually determined that she had a bad cold which turned into an ear infection...again! It was a horrible time getting her the right prescription because I waited at the pharmacy for OVER an hour just to find out that they prescribed amoxicillin...which we had the hives reaction to last time! I was not happy! It turned out that I had to call the Dr. back and the resubscribed her with another medicine.  But, Steve then had to drive back to Pella that night and pick it up right before the pharmacy closed. UGH! Thankfully he brought home supper, too :)

Our biggest thing with her was that she was so full of snot and mucous that as soon as she would eat she would cough and it would ALL come back out again.  We all went through several outfits a day for awhile there. The meds have helped her ears, but she still wakes up a lot at night coughing.

Steve and I both took a day off of work this week to be home with her and THEN we caught it. I stayed home from school on Wednesday and went to the Dr. and found out that I was sick with strep throat.  It was a long day Wednesday being sick and taking care of a sick little girl.  Thankfully Steve's Dad was able to watch Aubrey for 2 hours while I went to the Dr.

Steve then came down with the same thing Thursday night. I told him he had to go and get on antibiotics too before the weekend. So, he did and got lots of rest Friday.

Finally, I can say we are almost on the mend! What a poor, sick, little family we were.

Happy 7 Months, Aubs

Wow, this past month has seemed to fly by! Time does really fly by when you're having fun, I guess :)
Some facts:

  • has TWO bottom teeth that have broken through
  • Grandma VG (Josh, that means our mom :)) taught her to clap/patty cake when you say "yay"
  • is lunging toward toys when she is sitting down, face plants, and flips right over to her back - she still hates her tummy
  • can bear weight on her legs and stand against the couch/hassock by herself
  • has found out that doing raspberries while eating is AWESOME - I need to back away so I don't need a bath after I feed her, too
  • has been eating lots of rice cereal, fruits, veggies, and some puffs

NW Iowa Trip

Aubrey and I headed up to NW Iowa for several days while I attended the Heartland Convention at Dordt and Grandma and Grandpa VG got to watch Aubrey.  It worked out perfectly.  Here are a few highlights of the trip.

Catch Up

It appears it has been awhile since I have last updated, so here is a bit to catch you up.  Since we have recovered from the allergic reaction, here's what we've been up to:

  • Aubrey has needed to be "re-trained" in sleeping longer through the night.  She has been waking up at least two times a night again.  This is a big bummer especially since right before she had her allergic reaction she had been sleeping almost through the night.  Several nights she did not wake up at all, and if she did, it was about 4 or 5 a.m.  Lately it has been once around midnight and another around 4. Ugh!

  • A bottom tooth is working its way out.  You can't really see it, but you can definitely feel in with your finger.  Thankfully I have not noticed it at other times yet ;)

  • She has reacted to something else now! I noticed it Saturday night and she broke out in a very raised red rash all over her legs and arms.  It was odd though, because it wasn't on her tummy or back.  I think I have narrowed it down to the laundry detergent that my mom used on some of her clothes OR peaches.  Meanwhile, I have washed all her clothes in my hypoallergenic and perfume free detergent and stopped with the peaches.  Finally after about 5 days of the rash, she is looking back to herself.  With this rash, she was really unaffected by it, so we didn't have to get on any meds.

  • Aubrey and I are headed up to NW Iowa for another trip - this time for the Heartland Convention at Dordt.  I will be attending and Grandma (and Grandpa :)) Van Grouw will be watching Aubrey.  We are leaving today (Wed) and not returning until Sunday.  Steve will be gone at a cattle sale this weekend in Wisconsin anyway.  Next update will be about our adventures there, hopefully!
